Norton, PC Tools Top Real- World Malware Test

research laboratory based AV-Test.org Thursday released the results of a detailed study of the protection of malware real world, the dynamic test set for a range of solutions for safe navigation to the test.
This test has challenged a dozen security suites to protect large computers physically connected to the Internet against the threat of up-to-minutes. Every day for 60 days, scientists have released 10 new threats to systems testing and capacity analysis of each product to identify the threat and completely block its installation. They also checked for false alarms – effective programs flagged as malware. All suites have done a decent job, although some were significantly better than others.

The report notes that modern security suites include several layers of protection, including “URL filtering, reputation of Web services, operate the lock,” in the cloud “of exploration and the reaction mechanisms of protection. The proof that challenge the only product on-demand scanner is not representative of actual results. The process is simply to assess whether the product detected every malware sample regardless of who carried out the components of security controls. So the software used in the internal review to determine if the attack was successfully blocked malware.

This type of dynamic work test is much more intense than the mere application of a static pool of malware past a scanner on demand. An automated static test file that can process millions of samples without human intervention. However, monitoring of the 600 samples of malware and file 400 has taken all their resources of AV-Test. “Our lab complete with 14 full-time employees and up to 150 PCs and server systems were involved in this project.”

Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010 has achieved the best in the field of detection of malware, 98.0 percent. Even the least successful of the twelve, Trend Micro Internet Security 2010, found 83.3 per cent. Of course, the identification of a threat do not always prevent the attack. The best file pointer was present stalemate PC Tools Internet Security 2010, to 94.8 percent. CA Internet Security 2010 up to the rear with 73.5 percent. Here are the complete results:

This type of dynamic testing is the wave of the future. It ‘hard to do, but it is the only way to assess the suitability of a product for protection against malware.
